I am trying to migrate old distros to Puppet 2.7.21. I have compiled Ruby 1.8.7 from sources and installed facter and Puppet. When I do a run, I get this ERROR:

err: Could not retrieve catalog from remote server: Error 400 on SERVER: Invalid tag "" on node

Other machines seem to run just fine, I have run puppetmaster in debug mode, as the agent, but it does not reveal anything to me.

Any suggestions are appriciated :)

edit:

Good to add perhaps that the node_terminus = ldap

I have checked the differences in LDAP with other hosts, but ... (more)

I ran into this same problem and used 'puppet node clean {nodename}' to resolve. Seemed to work nicely!

That's a pretty heavy handed approach. Probably want to save it as the last resort.

After much searching I started to find a way to clear any cache the Puppetmaster might have, I wound up removing $vardir/yaml/node/$hostname and restarting. It resolved my issue..

I had the same problem and found the following bug report: http://projects.puppetlabs.com/issues/5898

My manifest had a hostname regex that started with a hyphen, e.g. "/-prod/" or something similar. I foreshortened my regex to not include the leading hyphen, "/prod/", and everything worked
