Hi all. We have upgraded DEV/TEST to PE 3.2.3 and PROD/ACC is still PE 3.0.1. We manage boot.udev with a module on SLES11SP2 x86_64.

We see the folowing diff in PE3.0.1 and PE3.2.3

PE3.2.3 puppet resource service boot.udev

service { 'boot.udev':
  ensure => ' running' ,
  enable => false,
}

chkconfig boot.udev --list

boot.udev   0:off 1:off  2:off 3:off 4:off 5:off 6:off **B:on**

PE3.0.1 puppet resource service boot.udev

service { 'boot.udev':
  ensure => ' running' ,
  enable => true,
}

chkconfig boot.udev --list

boot.udev   0:off 1:off  2:off 3:off 4:off 5:off 6:off **B:on**

Is this by design? of a bug?

It looks like a bug that was introduced in redmine ticket #20121 and released in puppet 3.3.0 (AFAIK PE3.2 is based on puppet 3.4.3 which still has the bug)

As a result puppet always treated boot services as not enabled due to the way chkconfig --check behaves on SLES. This was classified as a bug in PUP-1751 and has been fixed in puppet 3.6.0
