Hi All,

I'm trying to learn puppet via puppetlabs. module 5 'inheritance' I can't follow the exercise because everytime I do the puppet apply I get Could not retrieve mirrorlist http://repo.us-west-2.amazonaws.com/l... error was 12: Timeout on http://repo.us-west-2.amazonaws.com/l... : (28, 'Connection timed out after 10001 milliseconds')

this has been happening for some days now from various vms I've repeatedly tried. I had this with I think module 4 as well. Is there an ongoing problem with puppetlabs? if I post the

http://repo.us-west-2.amazonaws.com/l...

into a regular browser I do indeed get a list, so I'm not too sure what I should do here.

to be clear this is from the learning module where the learning module provisions a vm for me that I have no control over. by 'various vms' I mean I've tried starting the learning module multiple times and it keeps faulting out in the same way when trying to do a puppet run.

Got it. It might also be an issue with PuppetLab's VPC environment. Unfortunately, I don't have any visibility into that.

indeed, i'm assuming as such, but I'm not even sure where I should ask, figured I would post something in ask puppet ask as I can't find anywhere else to get info. Trouble is, I think it's a long standing problem. put the learning on hold for 2 weeks as the modules weren't working, still persists.

This is almost certainly a connectivity issue with your VM, and not a Puppet issue.

The mirrorlist you're referring to is published by Amazon, and used all over the world by AWS clients. Puppet is invoking YUM, which is attempting to retrieve the mirrorlist to determine where it can install RPM packages from. Installing an RPM is a fundamental action on Linux.

I can confirm that there are no problems accessing this list from one of my hosts.
