I am looking for a tool to both inventory my network as assist with the system and software management of: a) one Ubuntu KVM host b) one Windows Server 2008Rs (virtualised) c) multiple Windows 8.1 Pro workstations (virtualised)

I have recently read about LanSweeper for network inventory.

I am currently trialing Ubuntu Landscape for the Ubuntu Server.

Does Puppet Enterprise meet my requirements?

I think you may choose Open-AudIT . Open-AudIT is an application to tell you exactly what is on your network, how it is configured and when it changes. Open-AudIT will run on Windows and Linux systems. Or you may choose Auvik Auvik’s automated inventory detects and captures full details for every device on your client networks including make and model, serial number, software version, IP addresses, and more. ------Mohammad Ali, CEO of Inventory Software Services

Puppet Enterprise will inventory any device it manages. It is not however designed to be a general purpose network inventory and discovery tool.

For that, I strongly advise you to look at a product like Device42, or LanSweeper
