Puppet on Linux and Windows installs a service. Puppet on Mac OS X doesn't seem to do that. What is the recommended way of running puppet periodically on OSX?

The puppet.conf file controls how often the agent checks in with the master (via the runinterval value, measured in seconds). All you need to do is get the agent to start up at boot time. The best way to do this is via launchd. Puppet's has a doc to walk you through this step here: http://docs.puppetlabs.com/guides/installation.html#with-launchd
