Hello,

I am installing puppet 3.8.3-1 on a Centos 6.7 Linux system. I would like to use the existing host name of the system instead of changing the host name to puppet. Is there documentation or a procedure on how to use an existing server as the puppet master server?

Thank you

In /etc/puppet/puppet.conf, add server = <server_name>

probably in the [main] section

In /etc/hosts, you can also add an alias entry (puppet) with your existing host entry for your master server.

Is there a section in the documentation that discusses this type of configuration? Thanks

https://docs.puppetlabs.com/references/4.2.latest/configuration.html#server covers that particular setting.
