I am just going through some of the Puppet modules and found something like this.

Exec { path => [ '/bin', '/usr/bin', '/sbin' ] }

Not sure what this exec without command wil do? I tried executing this by putting into manifest, didn't get any errors.

sorry, missed to read complete puppet document. found this in stackoverflow

Resource types with an initial capital letter set defaults for later instances of that type.

In your example, all execs in scope will use the path, user, group, and logoutput parameters set there. File resources will similarly use the parameters set there as well.
