We have to use "puppet-enterprise-version-check" command for checking the enterprise version.

Here some ways to know if PE is installed;

 * Check the presence for start scripts /etc/init.d/pe-*
 * Check if you got a PE dashboard
 * Check of existence pe-puppet user

sudo puppet config print user

Open source puppet will report "puppet".

Puppet Enterprise will report "pe-puppet".

It's become harder to determine this with the PE 2015.2 release sharing a similar directory structure to open source puppet.
