Will updating the puppet master update the agents as well?

Will updating the puppet master update the agents as well? We want to update our puppet master to 2.7.20 from 2.7.12. Will this change anything on the agents?

No, the agents will not update if you update the master.

The only way the agents will update (excluding manual updates) is if you use ensure => latest or if you use ensure => 'some version' (such as 2.7.20ubuntu1 or whatever the name is for your package manager) (and then only if they do not already have that version installed).

If you use ensure => installed or ensure => present then whatever version is the latest when the initial install is done is the version they will always have.

The ensure => latest and ensure => 'version' requires that the package be available to your package management system. If you have the puppetlabs yum/apt.... repository set up this will "just ...(more)

I got stuck on version 3.8.5 and whatever I try it keeps installing that version on client, while on the master i have 4.9. I tried manually by packages, and tried apt to install from repos, but i keeps returning the same version, am I blind or what? (Please help anyone)
