Hi guys,

I wonder if I can use the Puppet without agent. I only need the Puppet connect on some servers through SSH and run some command lines.

Do you know if Puppet do this?

Thanks a lot.

you can run only a puppet agent, but your use case sounds like it would be better suited to using a remote execution tool like 'fabric' to manage external commands with python. http://www.fabfile.org/

  • you run puppet agent, if you set up a client/server infrastructure with several clients connecting to a puppetmaster/puppetserver
  • you can use puppet apply, if there's no central configuration distributing puppetmaster/puppetserver, but you have to distribute your puppet manifests by other means (e.g. an NFS mount)
