Hi,

I have bunch of servers which i don't have root access. I have few puppet in house modules (which will install some packages i.e., java,httpd,...).

I want to run those modules locally. How can i run puppet code without root access.

Is there any way to do ?

i am new to puppet and Linux, sorry if i am asking dumb question. Thanks in advance

Regards, J

puppet apply /path/to/manifest/like/nodes.pp --modulepath /path/to/modules --hiera_config /path/to/hiera.xml Not having root access means that some behavior (installing packages) etc.. may not work for you, as that usually requires root

Thanks for reply. I have one more small query. In puppet traditional environment client will check his desired state and if it has any changes it will apply. My question is clients will not have any admin access but it is contacting master and it is applying changes. how it is happening ? Thanks

The puppet agent will not consider if it has root privilege when contact master and applying changes. It will occurred some error like "Permission denied" when applying changes and found it has no privilege to apply.
