Hi ,

i have been trying to understand how filebucket works (Puppet Enterprise 3.0.1) for backing up of files. Below are the steps I have followed.

filebucket { 'main':

server => '',

path => false,

File { backup => 'main' }

node default{

ensure => "file",

mode => 777,

content => "test",

backup => 'main',

On executing the puppet agent using puppet agent -t, below messages are displayed in the terminal

Filebucketed /usr/local/filebuckettest.txt to main with sum f3346ea07e64ea753a98901aa550304b

Notice: /Stage[main]//File[/usr/local/filebuckettest.txt]/content: content changed '{md5}f3346ea07e64ea753a98901aa550304b' to '{md5}60cf1548dd6e7831cef1cda0963fc2e8'

In your examples you defined a central filebucket which will be located on, however you are looking in the wrong directory.

By default PE stores the backup copy of the files in /var/opt/lib/pe-puppet/clientbucket/ or just execute puppet config pring clientbucketdir to get your value.

Puppet uses MD5 hash of the file's content to create a filebucket path, based on the first few characters.

In your case the file f3346ea07e64ea753a98901aa550304b should be in /var/opt/lib/pe-puppet/clientbucket/f/3/3/4/6/e/a/0/f3346ea07e64ea753a98901aa550304b/contents. In the same folder ... (more)
