Change default install location in Linux

I'm trying to install Puppet Enterprise 3.0.1 on SLES11 and I'd like to install Puppet into the non default directories but I'm having problems trying to figure out how to do that. Is it even possible?

It appears that it can be done, but it will require quite a bit of work on your part. Check this mailing list posting from earlier this year.

Hmm, that's what I thought. I'm thinking we'll be able to get away with symlinking /opt/puppet, /etc/puppet and /etc/puppetlabs to the other file system ...(more)

download, install, modify spec files and rebuild these rpms
