what is the difference between mod_passenger and pe-passenger?

I have a Puppet dev server running v3.2.4 (not Puppet Enterprise). I'm using Apache+Passenger to offload the traffic so that Puppet can focus on processing catalogs. I need to build up our production server now and we will likely go with Puppet Enterprise which is now installed and also v3.2.4. When I look for the Passenger packages I'm seeing two: mod_passenger which I have installed on the Dev box and pe-passenger which is installed on the production box.

Is there any difference between the two packages? Does pe-passenger have anything specific to PE ... (more)

When you install PE all the necessary services/additional software such as apache, activeMQ including passenger are installed independently by PE, to make sure that some OS upgrades will not breaks PE.

So I guess in your case mod_passenger was installed by the OS and pe-passenger was installed by the PE itself. It's basically a safety measure.
