how can I use an already installed postgres instance?

I already have postgres installed locally with other databases. How can I use this postgres instance when installing puppetmaster?

You can set up your own PostgreSQL instance by following these instructions: http://docs.puppetlabs.com/puppetdb/1.3/configure.html#using-postgresql

However, PE best practices strongly suggest that you use a dedicated PostgreSQL instance for installing Puppet-related databases. Please see the sub-section "Database Support Role" here: http://docs.puppetlabs.com/guides/deployment_guide/index.html#choosing-where-to-install-each-role , specifically:

The PostgreSQL databases and server are vital to the functioning of the console. To keep things secure and robust, you should consult one of the many available hardening guides and security best practices (such as these guidelines).
