After running puppet node purge $hostname on the puppet master the host's data is still present when running puppet node find $hostname.

How do I "PURGE" all traces of the host from puppet / puppetdb ?

node deactivate and cert clean do not achieve the objective of fully scrubbing all data belonging to a host from puppetdb

You mean You have to remove all the data of a node from Puppet master, use this

 puppet node deactivate $hostname

 puppet cert clean $hostname

And you have to stop M-collective and puppet services in node

I have removed all traces of puppet / mco from the target (client) host and repeatedly run the answer commands which give the same output each time. The #puppet node find $client_hostname still produces output from the client_hostname.
