I have 2 VMs. I'm using keepalived to have them as MASTER/BACKUP with the same VIP. ( I want to deploy the machines one by one using Puppet.

I want to deploy the the BACKUP first and when it finishes, deploy the MASTER.

What is the best way to do it using Puppet?

well, I guess it's very easy now because of a very new brand feature of Puppet Enterprise 2018 (getting release tomorrow: 1st May) which is Puppet Bolt. It comes with a plan functionality which gives you a better control to deploy what and where with some specific order. A neat example with details can be found here:

Hope this is what you looking for.

Hi. Thx for your answer. We are not using Puppet Enterprise yet and we are looking to do it today. Any suggestions?

puppet bolt is an opensource component, who's counterpart is 'puppet tasks' which is a part of puppet enterprise.

but still we were missing 'plan' which is now in PE along with Bolt, if I'm correct. @bilgo, as DarylW mentioned still we can leverage the features of Bolt irrespective of open source or PE.
