puppetlabs apt module for ubuntu

has anyone used this module to install packages i.e i want to replicate apt-get install mailutils using this module

can this be done?

The puppetlabs apt module is for managing the sources.list and gpg keys and such for setting a server up to use particular apt repos. It does not handle the installation of packages, as the package type is responsible for that:

The functionality to install packages is already abstracted out by puppet The easiest way would be

package { 'install mailutils':
    ensure => present, 
    name => 'mailutils',
}

the apt module is mainly for adding repos to your /etc/sources.list.d/ directory

yes i just used

package { "mailutils": 
  ensure => installed,
}

to get it working
