I have enterprise puppet installed as master. I have installed enterprise agent on two different nodes. But they both come back with this error when I try to check from the node to the master by doing a puppet agent --test

Thanks for the quick reply. I figured it out. I was running a newer version of the agent than what my master was. After installing the same version of the agent on both master and node, things are okay now!

Is the problem reproducible or transient?

There are multiple bug tickets for a similar issue, most seemed to indicate network issues.

Alternatively check to see if you have a non utf8 character in your templates.
