Puppet Console Installer Hang with no error

Hey all,

I am trying to install Puppet Enterprise 3.0.1 on several VMs for a proof of concept.

I have three VMs, all of which are small compute instances with single cores and 512mb of ram, besides the master node, which has 2gb.

I have installed the master node on a single vm with no errors and the database node with no errors.

However, when I try to install the console node, the installer hangs at:

"Performing Puppet dashboard migration. This may take some time for larger databases..."

There is also no error log. I can ping each ... (more)

Some debugging hints:

  1. while the installer hangs, try ps auxwf to see the process tree and the final leaf (which is likely blocking)
  2. try a wide tcpdump to get an idea what's failing, but to exclude uninteresting traffic, e.g. tcpdump -i any not port 22
  3. run the installer through strace -o /tmp/trace -f, and try to find out what the final attempted connections are
