Can I manage APC PDUs with Puppet?

We have APC AP7900 switched rack PDUs and APC 1500 and 2200 with NMC2 cards that I would like to manage.

We had used APC management platform to partially manage these devices. That was mostly the updating of firmware and some monitoring of the device status. There really wasn't a solid management strategy though. With that said I am not sure if Puppet is even close to being the right tool for this, but I thought I would ask.

Could you clarify what you mean my manage? Puppet deals with packages, files, and services. How do you manage them now?

Puppet has two implementations. Puppet Master and masterless. Both of these implementations rely on a puppet agent running on the node.

Because the PDU's do not have an OS, they can not execute a puppet run. These devices can not be managed in the traditional way. Take a look at the following link. Puppet 2.7 introduced device management for select routers and switches. To my knowledge there is no support for battery backups (yet) http://puppetlabs.com/blog/puppet-network-device-management
