For example: The content of classes.txt file is below:

settings
nfs
puppet::agent
default
common
dnsclient

For the "setting" the definition is in hiera files. Where can I find the "default" definition ?

Is it possible that "default" is the default node definition?

Effectively the default class is just an empty namespace that all catalogs get by default; it just makes inheritance a bit easier and has no real relevance to anyone not working on the compiler itself.
