I use a master/slave puppet arch and i want to know where puppet download his packages, is it apt-get, yum, gem etc... Or does it download from puppet's depo?

And when the slaves have to download something, does the master download from the web, and send it to the slaves, or every slaves which are concerned download the package in the same time?

thanks :)

The type of tool used to download the package is depending on the provider you use: http://docs.puppetlabs.com/references/latest/type.html#package-attribute-provider .

Personnally I never define the package provider and let puppet decide the best to be used.

To my knowledge, the action done during apply of a catalog are done on the client side. Therefore the download of packages are done by the client itself.

Hope this helps.
